Elk Grove Village, IL
Elk Grove Village is a near-northwest suburb of Chicago, located adjacent to O’Hare Airport. The village covers nearly 11.5 square miles of land mostly in Cook County, home to a population of more than 32,000 people under its motto, “The Exceptional Community.”
A small herd of elk live on the eastern edge of the Busse Woods forest preserve, from which the community got its name. Elk are not native to the area but were brought by train from Montana in the 1920s. The village was incorporated in 1956 as Elk Grove Township, founded as a planned suburban community. Many major streets are named for the land’s early farmers. Today, Elk Grove Village houses the largest business park in North America, the site of more than 3,600 businesses accessible by several Interstate highways.
